About Our Martial Arts Program in South End Boston

We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Boabom, Yaanbao and Seamm-Jasani, three types of no-contact martial arts that incorporate elements of mindfulness, meditation, self defense and breathing. With their origins in ancient Tibet these practices help our students diffuse anxiety and stress while allowing them to feel much more focused in their everyday life. Our classes in and around Boston‘s South End are available in group and one-on-one environments for adults and children, and are conducted by our patient, gentle trainers.

While generally classified as a martial art, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and don’t involve contact, consequently they show people ways to leverage defense techniques without showing any aggressiveness to other trainees. Boabom students develop through learning different moves each week which build upon the prior session. This martial arts training course helps you to strengthen your balance, speed, reflexes, agility, self-control and breathing gain peace of mind and increase your self-confidence as you navigate life’s challenges. You can check out our introductory and free adult martial arts classes every Saturday and Wednesday.

Meditation Classes in South End Boston

Meditation is a practice originating in ancient India that has more purpose than ever in our stressful and demanding modern world. Incorporating breath control and mindfulness practices, meditation is one of the best ways to lower stress and anxiety. Numerous studies have demonstrated that meditation techniques can improve sleep and reduce high blood pressure and depressive disorders. Youngsters together with adults may be helped by practicing regular meditation.

You’re able to learn to practice meditation at the Boston School of Boabom. Our South End Boston area seated and still meditations combine imagination, visualization, breathing and sound to help slow down racing thoughts and our often critical inner voice. Our fully trained teachers walk you through every stage of a mindfulness meditation session, as well as gradually easing you out of it. Our meditation trainees report feelings of being more centered, refreshed, and better able to face the rest of their day after a meditation lesson. The Boabom approach to meditation is known as “the recycling of the mind” and includes stretching moves to help in loosening up the body and ease tension in the muscles.

Online Martial Arts Classes

Taking martial arts classes on the web is a fantastic means by which to fight anxiety and get some physical exercise throughout the coronavirus crisis, or when your way of life requires the ability to take lessons in your own home. Taking martial arts classes on the web also helps you feel a connection with other people with the same interest, regardless that you are not physically standing next to them. If you do not have direct access to a martial arts school that teaches a discipline on the internet, YouTube is an excellent resource for locating free classes. You can also check with a local martial arts school to determine if they are streaming live classes or providing online solutions.

Online Meditation and Breathing Classes

To make our meditation lessons more accessible to the public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus outbreak, the Boston School of Boabom has begun offering online meditation and breathing lessons. Classes are conducted online through Zoom at 11.00am each Saturday morning. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is led by Yemado, our director. You will get the same stretching and breathing techniques as in our in-person meditation sessions. You’ll discover that this is a terrific way to help ease any stress and anxiety you may be going through throughout these worrying times. Students are able to register online. Optional donations can be made, but are not required to take part.

What is the Difference Between Boabom and Tai Chi?

Seeing as Boabom is frequently taught as an alternative to Tai Chi, you might wonder what is the difference? Both use breathing and physical movements to develop strength, ease stress, and help practitioners to feel more at one with themselves.

One main difference is that Boabom is still seen as a sort of martial arts in spite of the fact that it’s largely non-competitive, while Tai Chi is primarily a form of physical exercise, albeit one which depends on quieting the mind and employing breathing and relaxation techniques. Tai Chi originated in China, while Boabom has its roots in ancient Tibet.

Boabom sometimes also incorporates the use of implements like various staffs for doing a few of the moves, and giving the discipline more of a feeling of self-defense. Boabom has also got some subsets which are known as Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom) and osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom), while there’s just one kind of Tai Chi.

Yoga Classes vs Boabom Classes – What is the Comparison?

Both yoga and Boabom are great at improving balance and agility in addition to lowering stress and anxiety, but how do the two really compare? The primary difference is that yoga is not a martial arts discipline while Boabom is. Boabom may be taught in sessions as a non-competitive, no-contact martial art, however a few of the movements are still categorized under self defense. Boabom also uses short staffs and other accessories that harp back to its roots in long past martial arts.

Yoga does not fall under the umbrella term of self defense, but it does call for similar breathing exercises and carrying out a range of moves to limber up the muscles and release stress. Yoga also comes in many forms which vary from gentle to more rigorous exercises and stretches, as well as the popular hot yoga. Whether Boabom or yoga is better for you depends upon your personal preferences.

Business Martial Arts Classes

Martial arts classes are a great team building activity for your employees that can also help them combat stress, feel more effective at work and practice mindfulness. Your workers can attend a martial arts class in person, or take part in one by using Zoom. It’s also possible to have a martial arts coach visit your workplace and carry out a class as an alternative to taking a kickboxing, tai chi or yoga session.

You’ll find that there are plenty of categories of martial arts to consider for your staff. Some involve a lot more contact, such as jiu jitsu and karate, while Boabom is a non-competitive, no contact martial art. Your personnel might also want to have a go at a tai chi or yoga lesson as an additional way to ease on-the-job tension.

Business Meditation Lessons

Help your workers deal with stress and improve productivity by letting them take part in meditation lessons for businesses. They can attend a meditation class via Zoom online or physically at the studio, or you can have a meditation instructor pay a visit to your place of work. Learning meditation techniques can have beneficial effects on a staff member’s home life, as well as hours spent at work.
