Details About Our Roslindale Martial Arts Program

The Boston School of Boabom teaches Seamm-Jasani, Boabom and Yaanbao, three no-contact kinds of martial arts that combine aspects of breathing, mindfulness, self defense and meditation. These ancient Tibetan practices help our trainees to diffuse stress and anxiety while allowing them to feel far more centered in their day to day life. Our Roslindale area classes are offered in private one-to-one and group settings for children and adults, and are guided by our gentle, patient tutors.

Though classified as one of the martial arts, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and use no contact, so they teach students ways to employ defense techniques without aggressiveness towards fellow participants. Boabom students develop by learning different movements weekly which enlarge on the prior class. Our martial arts technique helps strengthen your speed, breathing, reflexes, balance, self-control, agility, and more maintain peace of mind and develop your self-confidence as you navigate life’s challenges. You can make the most of our free introductory adult Boabom classes every Saturday and Wednesday.

    Meditation Classes in Roslindale

Meditation is an ancient Indian practice that has purpose more than ever in our demanding and stressful modern world. Incorporating mindfulness and breath control techniques, meditation is one of the best ways to reduce anxiety and stress. A great number of research projects have shown that meditation techniques can lower high blood pressure, ward off depression and improve sleep. Kids along with adults can be helped by practicing regular meditation.

You can learn to practice meditation at the Boston School of Boabom. Our still and seated meditations in Roslindale integrate imagination, visualization, sound and breathing to help in slowing down racing thoughts and our sometimes critical inner voice. Our instructors lead you through each phase of a mindfulness meditation session, including gradually drawing you out of it afterwards. Our contented meditation students report feeling more centered, refreshed, and better able to face the remainder of their day after a meditation class. The meditation approach adopted by Boabom is referred to as “the recycling of the mind” and features stretching movements to help in loosening up the body and break up tension in the muscles.

    Online Martial Arts Classes

Online martial arts classes are a great way to fight anxiety and get physical exercise through the coronavirus outbreak, or at times when your lifestyle necessitates the convenience of taking classes in your own home. Web based martial arts classes also help you feel connected to other folks with the same interest, in spite of the fact that you will not be standing next to them physically. If you haven’t got direct access to a martial arts school that gives instruction in a discipline on the internet, YouTube is a terrific resource for finding free training. You could also speak with martial arts schools locally to find out if they might be streaming live classes or providing other online techniques.

    Meditation & Breathing Classes Online

To make our meditation classes more accessible to the public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus epidemic, the Boston School of Boabom has begun providing online meditation and breathing sessions. Instruction is carried out on the internet by means of Zoom at 11.00am each Saturday morning. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is led by Yemado, our director. You may expect precisely the same breathing and stretching techniques as in our on-site meditation classes. This is a fantastic way to help ease any anxiety and stress that you may be having to deal with during these unsettling days. Students are able to enroll online. A donation is optional, but not mandatory to take part.

Boabom and Tai Chi – What is the Difference?

Since Boabom is often learned as an alternative to Tai Chi, some folks wonder precisely what the difference is. Both use bodily moves and deep breathing to develop strength, ease stress, and help students feel more connected to themselves.

The principal distinction is that Boabom is still considered to be a type of martial art in spite of the fact that it’s a non-competitive medium, whilst Tai Chi is principally a form of exercise, even though one that relies on suppressing your thoughts and using special breathing techniques. Boabom’s roots are in ancient Tibet while Tai Chi started in China.

Boabom also includes the use of accessories like for instance various staffs for carrying out some of the movements, and therefore giving the discipline more of a self-defense type feel. Boabom has also got subsets such as Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom) and osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom), while there’s just one form of Tai Chi.

Boabom Classes vs Yoga Classes – How do They Compare?

Both yoga and Boabom work well at developing balance and agility along with lowering stress and anxiety, but can you really compare them? The real difference is that yoga isn’t a branch of martial arts like Boabom is. Boabom may be learned in sessions as a no-contact, non-competitive martial art, but some of the moves can still be classified under self defense. Boabom can also use implements such as short staffs that amplify its roots in ancient martial arts.

Yoga does not come under the umbrella term of self defense, although it does involve very similar breathing techniques and performing a number of moves to limber up the muscles and release stress. Yoga also comes in many forms that vary from simple to more ambitious stretches and routines, as well as the popular hot yoga. Your own particular preferences will determine whether yoga or Boabom is better for you.

    Business Martial Arts Classes

Martial arts classes are a valuable team building strategy for your workforce which can also help them feel more effective at work, practice mindfulness and combat stress. Your work team can attend a martial arts class in person, or get involved in one through the use of Zoom online. It is also possible to have a martial arts teacher come to your workplace and conduct classes as an alternative to coordinating a yoga, kickboxing or tai chi session.

There are several disciplines of martial arts that you can consider for your staff members. Some involve more contact, such as karate and Brazilian jiu jitsu, while Boabom is a non-competitive, no contact martial art. Your workforce might also want to consider a yoga or tai chi lesson as an additional way to alleviate on-the-job stress.

    Business Meditation Classes

Help your workforce handle stress and improve productivity by allowing them to get involved in business meditation sessions. They can attend a meditation class via Zoom online or in-studio, or have a meditation coach visit your place of business. Learning how to practice meditation can have beneficial effects on an employee’s home life, together with time spent at their job.

    Boston School of Boabom Reviews

“I saw an ad for Boabom (“Bo-ah-bomb”) a few years ago on the T, and I was curious. The ad made it look like yoga, but the website promised something more like martial arts. I went to the free Saturday intro class, and decided to give it a shot.

The instructors of Boabom will tell you that it is “meditation through movement”. To the rest of us, it’s a great form of exercise that will improve your flexibility, balance, coordination, breathing and leave your head clear at the end of class. You can follow the core “Boabom” classes, which focus on strength and speed, or try Seamm Jasani (pronounced See-ahhm Ha-sah-nee), which is much slower. I’ve seen people practice from age 8 into their 70’s.

Boabom isn’t taught like most forms of self defense, in that you don’t spar. You will practice carefully with each other, but there is no hitting, leaving you bruised or hurt. If you’re looking to learn how to fight someone, this isn’t for you. But over time you WILL learn how to defend yourself effectively, getting into shape as you do so.

In every class, you learn something new. Every class. There are so many different movements, that you progressively add new ones, and leave others behind as you have mastered them. This keeps classes interesting, instead of having the same session week after week.

I practiced Boabom for three years before moving to Somerville. As much as I love it, the trek to Brookline is too long to keep up regularly. I would still be there if I lived closer, though.

If you’re looking for a good workout, for something that’s different, I’d give Boabom a try!” Alex

“The Boston School of Boabom is a school with excellent teachers, and where everyone feels welcome” Boabom Norden
