Details About Our Newton Martial Arts Program

We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Yaanbao, Boabom and Seamm-Jasani, three styles of no-contact martial arts that incorporate elements of breathing, mindfulness, self defense and meditation. With their beginnings in ancient Tibet these practices help our trainees diffuse anxiety and stress while feeling more focused in their daily life. Our Newton area classes are available in private one-on-one and group settings for children and adults, led by our supportive, gentle instructors.

While it’s generally regarded as a martial art, Boabom and its subsets don’t involve contact and are not competitive, so they show people ways to employ defense tactics without any aggression towards other participants. Students progress by mastering new moves weekly that expand on the prior lesson. This martial arts training course helps enhance your agility, balance, reflexes, self-control, breathing and speed maintain peace of mind and build your self-confidence as you navigate life’s challenges. Why not make the most of our introductory and free adult Boabom classes every Wednesday and Saturday?

Meditation Classes in Newton

Meditation is a practice originating in ancient India which has purpose more than ever in our stressful and demanding modern world. Integrating breath control and mindfulness techniques, meditation is one of the best ways to lower stress and anxiety. Several research projects have proven that meditation techniques can improve sleep and lower high blood pressure and depression. Children as well as adults may benefit from practicing regular meditation.

You can learn to meditate at the Boston School of Boabom. Our seated and still meditations in Newton combine breathing, imagination, visualization and sound to help slow down our often critical inner voice and our racing thoughts. Our fully trained teachers walk you through every stage of a mindfulness meditation session, as well as slowly easing you out of it. Our many students report feeling more centered, refreshed, and ready to take on the rest of their day after a meditation class. The Boabom approach to meditation is known as “the recycling of the mind” and among other things includes stretching moves to help loosen the body and ease tension in the muscles.

Online Martial Arts Classes

Taking martial arts classes on the web is an excellent way to combat anxiety and get some physical exercise through the coronavirus outbreak, or at times when your lifestyle requires the ability to take lessons in the comfort of your home. Taking martial arts lessons on the web also helps you feel connected to others with the same interest, even though you will not be literally standing beside them. If you don’t have direct access to a martial arts school which teaches a discipline on the internet, YouTube is an awesome resource for discovering free classes. It would also be a good idea to check with a local martial arts school to find out if they might be holding live streaming classes or providing other internet services.

Online Breathing and Meditation Classes

To make our meditation sessions more convenient for the general public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus outbreak, we at the Boston School of Boabom have begun offering online meditation and breathing sessions. Instruction is conducted on the web by means of Zoom at 11.00am each Saturday morning. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is taught by Yemado, our director. You can anticipate exactly the same breathing and stretching techniques as you do in our standard in-person meditation classes. You will find that this is a brilliant approach to reduce any anxiety and stress that you may be suffering with during these uncertain days. Interested participants are able to enroll online. Optional donations can be made, but are not required to attend.

Boabom and Tai Chi – What is the Difference?

As Boabom is often learned as an alternative to Tai Chi, you may wonder what is the difference? Both disciplines use physical moves and deep breathing to build strength, reduce stress, and help people to feel more at one with themselves.

The key distinction is that Boabom is still considered to be a kind of martial arts although it is a non-competitive medium, whilst Tai Chi is principally a sort of exercise, albeit one which depends on quieting your thoughts and employing special breathing techniques. Tai Chi started in China, while Boabom has its roots in ancient Tibet.

Boabom can also include the use of implements such as short staffs to do a few of the movements, and therefore giving the discipline a bit more of a self-defense type feel. Boabom has also got some subclasses such as Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom) and osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom), while there’s just one kind of Tai Chi.

Boabom Classes vs Yoga Classes – What is the Comparison?

Both yoga and Boabom are effective at improving balance and agility in addition to lowering stress and anxiety, but how do they really compare? The real difference is that yoga isn’t a discipline of martial arts like Boabom is. Boabom can be taught in sessions as a non-competitive, no-contact kind of martial arts, however several of the moves are still categorized as self defense. Boabom can also use accessories such as short staffs which harp back to its origins in long past martial arts.

Yoga doesn’t come under the umbrella term of self defense, although it does require very similar breathing techniques and executing a variety of poses to release stress and loosen the muscles. There are also many varieties of yoga which vary from simple to more intense routines and stretches, together with the popular hot yoga. Whether yoga or Boabom is best for you depends upon your own particular preferences.

Martial Arts Classes for Businesses

Martial arts classes are a fantastic team building activity for your workforce that can also help them to feel more efficient at work, fight stress and promote mindfulness. Your workers can physically attend a martial arts class, or take part in one via Zoom. It’s also possible to have a martial arts instructor visit your place of work and conduct a class instead of taking a tai chi, kickboxing or yoga session.

There are numerous disciplines of martial arts to consider for your employees. Some involve a lot more contact, such as karate and Brazilian jiu jitsu, whilst Boabom is a no-contact, non-competitive kind of martial arts. Your team might also want to have a go at a yoga or tai chi lesson as another way to relieve workplace anxiety.

Business Meditation Sessions

Help your workers tackle stress and enhance productivity by letting them take part in business meditation classes. You can enroll for a meditation lesson in person at the studio or via Zoom, or you can have a meditation teacher visit your place of business. Learning meditation techniques can have positive effects on a person’s home life, along with hours spent at their job.

Boston School of Boabom Reviews

“Great, friendly people there. They’ll let you try out a class for free! Also, if you see any ads for them up in the T, the attractive bearded man with the staff is mine.” Ashley

“I have practiced martial arts at the Boston School of Boabom for about 4 years and this has been one of the best decisions I’ve taken. This is a form of soft martial arts, with focus on relaxation, meditation and self defense. The energy at the school from students and teachers is very positive and inspiring. If you are interested in martial arts and have not found a school or a discipline that fits what you’re looking for, come to the free intro class every Saturday at noon to get a taste of what it’s like!” Raul

About Newton, MA

A suburb city of Middlesex, County Newton has a population of 85,146. Originally called Newe Towne this city was renamed as Cambridge Village and then named Newton. It’s also called the Garden City. A series of mills built here ushered in the industrialization of Newton. Chocolate, snuff, paper, glue, and many other products were made here. It was home to the maker of Stanley Steamer the Stanley Motor Carriage Company. This city was one of the earliest commuter suburbs of the USA. This led to Boston wealthy businessmen building elegant homes on existing farmlands which were mostly built on Commonwealth Street and West Newton Hill. Though development and industrialization crept here the farming activities mostly gardening didn’t stop in some areas like Oakland. But later development bug bit it too making Newton a densely-settled city. New Philomena Orchestra Massachusetts and Newton Symphony Orchestra are two symphony orchestras that are housed here.
