Details About Our Fenway Area Martial Arts Program

We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Yaanbao, Seamm-Jasani and Boabom, three types of no-contact martial arts that incorporate aspects of mindfulness, breathing, meditation and self defense. These ancient Tibetan practices help our trainees in diffusing stress and anxiety while allowing them to feel far more focused in their daily life. Our Fenway area classes are offered in private one-to-one and group environments for children and adults, and are led by our gentle, patient instructors.

Even though classified as one of the martial arts, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and don’t use any contact, consequently they show people how to use self defense techniques without showing any aggression to other trainees. Students develop through learning new movements weekly that expand on the prior session. Our martial arts training course helps improve your agility, speed, reflexes, balance, self-control and breathing maintain peace of mind and develop your self-confidence as you navigate life’s challenges. Why don’t you make the most of our introductory and free adult martial arts classes every Saturday and Wednesday?

    Fenway Meditation Classes

Meditation is a practice originating in ancient India which has purpose more than ever in our stress filled modern day world. Combining mindfulness and breath control practices, meditation is an excellent way to lessen anxiety and stress. A great number of research projects have shown that meditation techniques can improve sleep and lower high blood pressure and depressive disorders. Youngsters along with adults may benefit from applying meditation.

You can learn to practice meditation at the Boston School of Boabom. Our Fenway area seated and still meditations combine sound, breathing, imagination and visualization to help slow down our sometimes critical inner voice and our racing thoughts. Our teachers lead you through each phase of a mindfulness meditation session, including gradually easing you out of it. Our happy trainees report feelings of being refreshed, more centered, and better able to take on the remainder of their day after a meditation lesson. The Boabom approach to meditation is called “the recycling of the mind” and among other things includes stretching poses to help loosen-up the body and relieve muscular tension.

    Martial Arts Classes Online

Online martial arts classes are a fantastic means by which to deal with anxiety and get some exercise throughout the coronavirus pandemic, or at times when your lifestyle requires the ability to take classes in your own home. Web based martial arts classes also help you feel connected to other people with the same interest, in spite of the fact that you aren’t standing next to them physically. If you do not have access to a martial arts school that teaches a discipline on the internet, YouTube is a superb resource to discover free classes. It might also be a good idea to check with a local martial arts school to determine if they might be streaming live classes or offering other internet programs.

    Meditation & Breathing Classes Online

To help with providing our services throughout the coronavirus pandemic and to make our meditation classes more convenient for the public, the Boston School of Boabom has started providing online breathing and meditation classes. Classes are carried out on the internet by means of Zoom at 11.00am every Saturday morning. The hour-long online guided meditation is led by our director Yemado. You may expect the same breathing and stretching techniques as in our usual in-person meditation classes. You’ll find that this is an effective way to reduce any stress and anxiety that you may be suffering with during these uncertain times. Interested participants are able to join online. Donations are optional, but not required to attend.

Tai Chi and Boabom – What’s the Difference?

As Boabom is frequently learned as a substitute for Tai Chi, one might wonder about what the difference is. Both disciplines use deep breathing and bodily poses to develop strength, reduce stress, and help students feel more at one with themselves.

The principal difference is that Boabom is still considered to be a kind of martial art in spite of the fact that it is largely non-competitive, while Tai Chi is primarily a type of exercise, even though one that depends on suppressing the mind and using breathing techniques. Boabom’s development was in ancient Tibet while Tai Chi began in China.

Boabom can also include the use of implements such as short staffs for performing a few of the routines, and therefore giving the practice a little more of a feeling of self-defense. Boabom has also got some subcategories which are known as Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom) and osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom), while there is only one type of Tai Chi.

Yoga Classes vs Boabom Classes – How They Compare

Both yoga and Boabom are effective at enhancing balance and agility along with reducing stress and anxiety, but how do the two really compare? The chief difference is that yoga isn’t a discipline of martial arts like Boabom is. Boabom can be taught in sessions as a non-competitive, no-contact martial art, but a few of the actions may still be categorized as self defense. Boabom can also use accessories such as short staffs that harp back to its roots in the martial arts of the past.

Yoga does not fall under the umbrella term of self defense, although it does call for similar breathing exercises and doing a variety of postures to limber the muscles and release stress. There are also many varieties of yoga that range from basic to more strenuous exercises and stretches, together with the popular hot yoga. Whether Boabom or yoga is best for you depends upon your own personal preferences.

    Business Martial Arts Classes

Martial arts classes for adults is a powerful team building strategy for your personnel which can also help them to combat stress, feel more effective in the workplace and practice mindfulness. It’s possible for your workers to physically attend a martial arts class, or participate in one through the use of Zoom online. It’s also possible to get a martial arts teacher to visit your place of work and carry out classes instead of coordinating a kickboxing, yoga or tai chi session.

You will find that there are several disciplines of martial arts to consider for your staff members. Karate and some other Japanese martial arts along with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu involve more contact, whilst Boabom is a no-contact, non-competitive kind of martial arts. Your personnel might also want to consider a tai chi or yoga session as yet another way to relieve the stresses or work.

    Meditation Sessions for Businesses

Increase productivity and help your staff deal with stress by letting them get involved in meditation classes for businesses. You can enroll for a meditation lesson via Zoom online or physically at the studio, or you can have a meditation coach come to your workplace. Learning meditation techniques can have beneficial effects on a person’s home life, together with time spent at work.

    Boston School of Boabom Reviews

“Always chill, the Boabom School is where I go to exercise and relax every week. Every class is different and challenging, and the teachers are always energetic and inspiring.” Russen Guggemos

“I saw an ad for Boabom (“Bo-ah-bomb”) a few years ago on the T, and I was curious. The ad made it look like yoga, but the website promised something more like martial arts. I went to the free Saturday intro class, and decided to give it a shot.

The instructors of Boabom will tell you that it is “meditation through movement”. To the rest of us, it’s a great form of exercise that will improve your flexibility, balance, coordination, breathing and leave your head clear at the end of class. You can follow the core “Boabom” classes, which focus on strength and speed, or try Seamm Jasani (pronounced See-ahhm Ha-sah-nee), which is much slower. I’ve seen people practice from age 8 into their 70’s.

Boabom isn’t taught like most forms of self defense, in that you don’t spar. You will practice carefully with each other, but there is no hitting, leaving you bruised or hurt. If you’re looking to learn how to fight someone, this isn’t for you. But over time you WILL learn how to defend yourself effectively, getting into shape as you do so.

In every class, you learn something new. Every class. There are so many different movements, that you progressively add new ones, and leave others behind as you have mastered them. This keeps classes interesting, instead of having the same session week after week.

I practiced Boabom for three years before moving to Somerville. As much as I love it, the trek to Brookline is too long to keep up regularly. I would still be there if I lived closer, though.

If you’re looking for a good workout, for something that’s different, I’d give Boabom a try!” Alex
