We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Yaanbao, Boabom and Seamm-Jasani, three styles of no-contact martial arts that include aspects of self defense, breathing, mindfulness and meditation. These ancient Tibetan techniques help our trainees diffuse anxiety and stress while feeling more centered in their day to day life. Our classes in and around Allston are offered in group and private one-on-one environments for adults and children, and are conducted by our gentle, supportive tutors.
Whilst it is classified as one of the martial arts, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and don’t use any contact, so they show students ways to use self defense techniques without any aggressiveness towards other participants. Boabom students develop by learning different movements weekly that build on the previous lesson. Our martial arts program helps improve your reflexes, agility, breathing, speed, self-control, balance, and more give you greater peace of mind and develop your self-confidence as you face the challenges of life. Why don’t you make the most of our free introductory adult martial arts classes every Wednesday and Saturday?
Meditation is a practice originating in ancient India that has more purpose than ever in our stress filled modern day world. Combining mindfulness and breath control techniques, meditation is a highly effective way to reduce anxiety and stress. Many studies have established that meditation techniques can improve sleep and lower high blood pressure and depression. Kids along with adults can benefit from applying regular meditation.
You can learn to practice meditation at the Boston School of Boabom. Our Allston area seated and still meditations mix sound, visualization, imagination and breathing to help slow down racing thoughts and our often critical inner voice. Our instructors walk you through each phase of a mindfulness meditation session, as well as gently drawing you out of it. Our happy trainees report feeling refreshed, more centered, and better able to take on the rest of their day following a meditation session. The meditation approach adopted by Boabom is referred to as “the recycling of the mind” and features stretching movements to help loosen-up the body and relieve muscular tension.
Online martial arts classes are a great way to combat stress and get a bit of exercise throughout the coronavirus outbreak, or at times when your lifestyle calls for the convenience of taking lessons from the comfort of your home. Web based martial arts lessons also help you feel connected to others having the same interests, although you will not be actually standing next to them. If you do not have direct access to a martial arts school which teaches a discipline online, YouTube is a superb resource for obtaining free instruction. You could also speak to a local martial arts school to find out if they’re holding live streaming classes or offering other online techniques.
To make our meditation lessons more convenient for the general public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus pandemic, the Boston School of Boabom has begun offering online meditation and breathing lessons. Instruction is carried out on the internet by way of Zoom every Saturday morning at 11 AM. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is led by our director Yemado. You can anticipate the exact same breathing and stretching techniques as in our standard on-site meditation sessions. This is a brilliant way to help reduce any anxiety and stress that you might be going through these distressing times. Interested participants are able to register online. Optional donations can be made, but are not necessary to attend.
Because Boabom can be learned as a substitute for Tai Chi, some people wonder precisely what differences there are. Both use bodily movements and breathing to build strength, alleviate tension, and help people feel more at one with themselves.
The main distinction is that Boabom is still regarded as a sort of martial arts in spite of the fact that it’s non-competitive, whilst Tai Chi is principally a form of exercise, albeit one that relies on suppressing your thoughts and using breathing and relaxation techniques. Boabom’s development was in ancient Tibet while Tai Chi began in China.
Boabom can also include the use of implements such as short staffs to carry out some of the moves, and giving the practice a little more of a feeling of self-defense. Boabom has also got subclasses which are known as osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom) and Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom), while there is just one type of Tai Chi.
Both Boabom and yoga are good at enhancing agility and balance in addition to reducing anxiety and stress, but how do they really compare? The chief difference is that yoga isn’t a martial arts technique like Boabom certainly is. Boabom can be learned in sessions as a non-competitive, no-contact type of martial arts, however several of the moves may still be classified as self defense. Boabom can also use accessories such as short staffs that harp back to its origins in the martial arts of the past.
Yoga is not a kind of self defense, although it does call for similar breathing techniques and carrying out an assortment of moves to limber up the muscles and release stress. Yoga also comes in many forms which range from gentle to more strenuous routines and stretches, as well as the widely popular hot yoga. Your own personal preferences will determine whether Boabom or yoga is perfect for you.
Adult martial arts classes are an effective team building strategy for your staff which can also help them practice mindfulness, tackle stress and feel more efficient at work. Your workers can attend a martial arts class in person, or take part in one through the use of Zoom online. It is also possible to get a martial arts coach to visit your place of work and carry out classes rather than coordinating a kickboxing, tai chi or yoga class.
There are lots of divisions of martial arts that you can consider for your staff members. Some call for a lot more contact, like karate and jiu jitsu, whilst Boabom is a no-contact, non-competitive form of martial arts. Your workforce might also want to try a yoga or tai chi class as an additional way to relieve the stresses or work.
Improve productivity and help your workers overcome stress by having them get involved in business meditation classes. You can join a meditation session in-studio or via Zoom, or have a meditation coach pay a visit to your workplace. Learning meditation techniques can positively affect a staff member’s home life, together with hours spent on the job.
“Great, friendly people there. They’ll let you try out a class for free! Also, if you see any ads for them up in the T, the attractive bearded man with the staff is mine.” Ashley
“I really liked taking classes here. The art is great exercise and I like practicing it. I haven’t been back in a while because I can’t afford it, but I still practice some moves at home. One of my concerns is that there isn’t always enough stretching, although I understand there are limitations due to the length of classes. I feel like this is more important for people that don’t do yoga, or other stretches outside of the art.
This is the only location in the US. I really believe them that it is an ancient art, because if you’ve seen students spar in the highest levels, you can easily see how different it is from other martial art forms. One of the things that distinguishes Boabom, is they practice non-contact fighting because you will be taught how to hurt people if you ever need to. It is better this way for the health of people involved, but also because you really know what to do if you ever need to. In a lot of other schools, people get hurt learning to fight, but that doesn’t happen in Boabom.
I liked having the chance to have deep conversations with people before and after classes. I feel that most students are friendly and more spiritually advanced than the average person. I’d like to start going again some day. I learned a lot of valuable life skills from being a part of Boston Boabom.” Andrew
