We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Boabom, Yaanbao and Seamm-Jasani, three types of no-contact martial arts that incorporate aspects of breathing, meditation, mindfulness and self defense. These ancient Tibetan techniques help our trainees to diffuse anxiety and stress while feeling far more centered in their daily life. Our classes in and around Jamaica Plain are offered in group and private one-on-one settings for both adults and children, conducted by our caring, gentle trainers.
Although commonly regarded as one of the martial arts, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and use no contact, therefore they teach students ways to leverage defense strategies without any aggressiveness towards fellow trainees. Boabom students develop by mastering different moves each week that build upon the previous sessions. This martial arts training course helps you to strengthen your breathing, self-control, balance, agility, speed, reflexes, and more gain peace of mind and develop your self-confidence as you navigate life’s challenges. You can make the most of our introductory and free adult martial arts classes every Wednesday and Saturday.
Meditation is an ancient Indian practice which has purpose more than ever in our stressful and demanding modern day world. Incorporating mindfulness and breath control practices, meditation is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and anxiety. Lots of research studies have proven that meditation techniques can lower high blood pressure, ward off depression and improve sleep. Children as well as adults may benefit from employing meditation.
Learn to practice meditation at the Boston School of Boabom. Our Jamaica Plain area seated and still meditations mix breathing, visualization, imagination and sound to help in slowing down racing thoughts and our sometimes critical inner voice. Our excellent tutors lead you through every stage of a mindfulness meditation session, as well as gradually drawing you out of it. Our many trainees report feelings of being refreshed, more centered, and ready to face the remainder of the day following a meditation lesson. The Boabom approach to meditation is referred to as “the recycling of the mind” and among other things includes stretching movements to help loosen the body and relieve tension in the muscles.
Taking martial arts classes on the web is an excellent means by which to fight stress and get some physical exercise during the coronavirus pandemic, or when your lifestyle requires the ability to take lessons in your own home. Web based martial arts classes also help you feel a connection with other folks having the same interests, despite the fact that you’re not standing beside them physically. If you do not have direct access to a martial arts school which teaches a discipline on the web, YouTube is an awesome resource to discover free training. You could also talk to a local martial arts school to find out if they are streaming classes or offering other online solutions.
To make our meditation classes more accessible to the public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus pandemic, we at the Boston School of Boabom have started offering online meditation and breathing lessons. Sessions are conducted on the internet by using Zoom every Saturday morning at 11 AM. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is taught by our director Yemado. You may expect exactly the same breathing and stretching techniques as you do in our normal on-site meditation classes. You will discover that this is an awesome way to ease any stress and anxiety that you may be dealing with during these distressing times. Participants are able to register online. Optional donations can be made, but are not necessary to attend.
Because Boabom can be learned as a substitute for Tai Chi, you may wonder what is the difference? Both disciplines use physical poses and breathing techniques to reduce stress, build strength, and help people feel more at one with themselves.
The principal difference is that Boabom is still considered to be a kind of martial art in spite of the fact that it is largely non-competitive, whilst Tai Chi is primarily a form of physical exercise, even though one that relies on quieting the mind and employing breathing and relaxation techniques. Tai Chi originated in China, while Boabom has its roots in ancient Tibet.
Boabom can also feature the use of accessories like for instance various staffs to accomplish a few of the routines, and therefore giving the practice a little more of a self defense feel. Boabom also has some subsets such as osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom) and Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom), while there’s just one sort of Tai Chi.
Both yoga and Boabom are great at developing agility and balance in addition to eliminating stress and anxiety, but can you really compare the two? The real difference is that yoga is not a discipline of martial arts like Boabom is. Boabom may be learned in sessions as a no-contact, non-competitive martial art, however a number of the actions may still be categorized as self defense. Boabom also uses short staffs and other accessories that remind us of its roots in the martial arts of the past.
Yoga is not a sort of self defense, although it does involve very similar breathing exercises and carrying out a range of poses to warm up the muscles and release stress. Yoga also comes in many forms that range from basic to more intense routines and stretches, as well as the widely popular hot yoga. Whether Boabom or yoga is perfect for you depends upon your own particular preferences.
Martial arts classes are an effective team building activity for your employees that can also help them fight stress, feel more efficient at work and promote mindfulness. It’s possible for your workers to attend a martial arts class in person, or take part in one by using Zoom. We also offer the possibility for you to have a martial arts teacher visit your place of work and supervise classes instead of coordinating a tai chi, kickboxing or yoga session.
You’ll find that there are lots of categories of martial arts to contemplate for your staff members. Karate and some other Japanese martial arts together with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu call for a lot more contact, whilst Boabom is a non-competitive, no contact type of martial arts. Your workforce may also want to have a go at a yoga or tai chi class as another way to relieve the stresses or work.
Boost productivity and help your employees handle stress by letting them get involved in meditation sessions for businesses. They can attend a meditation lesson via Zoom online or in person at the studio, or you can have a meditation coach come to your place of business. Learning meditation techniques can have positive effects on a staff member’s home life, as well as hours spent at work.

A Boston city neighborhood Jamaica Plain has a population of 37,468. It was formerly a part of Roxbury town. Jamaica Plain is one of the first streetcar suburbs in America. The first school established here on the land donated by John Eliot still exists and is called the Eliot School in his honor. Majorly a farming community and having many farmlands it transitioned the bucolic countryside into estates the lands being bought by wealthy men. The community’s first church was also built here and it was one of the original Unitarian Churches and it still exists today at the site with the name First Church in Jamaica Plain. The building, however, underwent a transformation from White Clapboard to stone Romanesque Revival. This area played a significant role in the American War of Revolution too.
