About Our Online Martial Arts Program

We at the Boston School of Boabom teach Seamm-Jasani, Yaanbao and Boabom, three no-contact forms of martial arts that combine aspects of self defense, meditation, breathing and mindfulness. With their beginnings in historic Tibet these techniques help our trainees in diffusing stress and anxiety while allowing them to feel far more focused in their day to day life. Classes are available in private one-on-one and group environments for both children and adults, and are guided by our gentle, supportive tutors.

Though regarded as a martial art, Boabom and its subsets are non-competitive and don’t involve contact, therefore they show people how to employ self defense techniques without showing any aggressiveness to fellow participants. Students develop through mastering new motions weekly that build upon the prior session. This martial arts technique helps you to improve your agility, speed, reflexes, balance, self-control and breathing to develop your self confidence and maintain peace of mind as you navigate life’s challenges. You can check out our free introductory adult martial arts classes every Wednesday and Saturday.

Martial Arts Classes On the Internet

Taking martial arts classes online is an outstanding way to combat stress and get a bit of physical exercise during the coronavirus outbreak, or at times when your way of life calls for the ability to take lessons in your own home. Taking martial arts lessons online also helps you feel a connection with other folks having the same interests, even though you may not be physically standing beside them. If you don’t have direct access to a martial arts class that gives instruction in one of the disciplines on the web, YouTube is a fantastic resource for getting free instruction. You can also speak with a local martial arts school to determine if they may be streaming live classes or offering online services.

Breathing and Meditation Classes Online

To make our meditation classes more accessible to the general public and to help continue providing our services during the coronavirus epidemic, we at the Boston School of Boabom have begun providing online breathing and meditation sessions. Sessions are conducted on the internet through the use of Zoom every Saturday morning at 11 AM. The online guided meditation last for one hour and is led by Yemado, our director. You can anticipate precisely the same breathing and stretching exercises as you do in our in-person meditation classes. This is an awesome approach to reduce any stress and anxiety that you might be suffering with through these worrying times. Students can join online. Optional donations can be made, but are not required to attend.

Meditation Classes

Meditation is a practice originating in ancient India that has purpose more than ever in our stressful modern day world. Incorporating breath control and mindfulness techniques, meditation is one of the best ways to lower anxiety and stress. A number of research studies have shown that meditation techniques can improve sleep and lower high blood pressure and depression. Children along with adults may benefit from employing regular meditation.

You can learn to meditate at the Boston School of Boabom. Seated and still meditations combine imagination, sound, visualization and breathing to help in slowing down our sometimes critical inner voice and our racing thoughts. Our excellent teachers lead you through each phase of a mindfulness meditation session, as well as gradually easing you out of it. Our many students report feelings of being more centered, refreshed, and better able to take on the rest of the day after a meditation lesson. The meditation approach used by Boabom is known as “the recycling of the mind” and includes stretching poses to help loosen the body and break up tension in the muscles.

What’s the Difference Between Boabom and Tai Chi?

Because Boabom is frequently practiced as a substitute for Tai Chi, you may wonder what is the difference? Both use physical poses and breathing techniques to ease tension, develop strength, and help students feel more connected to themselves.

The principal distinction is that Boabom is still considered a kind of martial art despite the fact that it is non-competitive, while Tai Chi is primarily a form of exercise, albeit one that relies on suppressing your thoughts and employing breathing and relaxation techniques. Boabom’s development was in ancient Tibet while Tai Chi started in China.

Boabom sometimes also includes the use of accessories such as various staffs to perform some of the moves, and therefore giving the practice a bit more of a feeling of self-defense. Boabom has also got subclasses which are known as osseous Boabom (traditional Boabom) and Seamm-Jasani (also called gentle Boabom), while there is only one type of Tai Chi.

Boabom Classes vs Yoga Classes – How They Compare

Both yoga and Boabom are effective at developing balance and agility along with reducing anxiety, however do they really compare? The main difference is that yoga isn’t a branch of martial arts like Boabom is. Boabom can be taught in classes as a non-competitive, no-contact martial art, but several of the movements may still be classified under self defense. Boabom can also use implements such as short staffs that amplify its origins in ancient martial arts.

Yoga doesn’t fall under the umbrella term of self defense, although it does involve comparable breathing exercises and executing a number of movements to warm up the muscles and release stress. Yoga also comes in many forms that vary from basic to more intense stretches and routines, together with the popular hot yoga. Whether Boabom or yoga is best for you depends upon your individual preferences.

Martial Arts Classes for Companies

Martial arts classes are a winning team building activity for your employees which can also help them to develop mindfulness, tackle stress and feel more efficient at work. It is possible for your work team to physically attend a martial arts class, or take part in one through the use of Zoom. We also offer the opportunity for you to get a martial arts coach to come to your place of work and carry out a class rather than taking a yoga, kickboxing or tai chi session.

There are plenty of disciplines of martial arts to contemplate for your staff. Karate along with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu involve more contact, while Boabom is a no-contact, non-competitive martial art. Your team may also want to try a tai chi or yoga class as yet another way to alleviate on-the-job stress.

Meditation Classes for Businesses

Help your workforce deal with stress and enhance productivity by allowing them to participate in business meditation sessions. They can attend a meditation lesson via Zoom online or in-studio, or you can have a meditation instructor come to your place of business. Learning meditation techniques can have positive effects on a person’s home life, together with time spent at work.

Boston School of Boabom Reviews

“I was a student at Boston Boabom, and my experience was very nice. Excellent teachers, with great optimism and support for their students. A unique and very relaxed atmosphere. I liked the way of teaching and the Boabom Art, very dinamic and eficient. I hope to visit Boston Boabom again soon. See you!” Lanatelar Textil

“I saw an ad for Boabom (“Bo-ah-bomb”) a few years ago on the T, and I was curious. The ad made it look like yoga, but the website promised something more like martial arts. I went to the free Saturday intro class, and decided to give it a shot.

The instructors of Boabom will tell you that it is “meditation through movement”. To the rest of us, it’s a great form of exercise that will improve your flexibility, balance, coordination, breathing and leave your head clear at the end of class. You can follow the core “Boabom” classes, which focus on strength and speed, or try Seamm Jasani (pronounced See-ahhm Ha-sah-nee), which is much slower. I’ve seen people practice from age 8 into their 70’s.

Boabom isn’t taught like most forms of self defense, in that you don’t spar. You will practice carefully with each other, but there is no hitting, leaving you bruised or hurt. If you’re looking to learn how to fight someone, this isn’t for you. But over time you WILL learn how to defend yourself effectively, getting into shape as you do so.

In every class, you learn something new. Every class. There are so many different movements, that you progressively add new ones, and leave others behind as you have mastered them. This keeps classes interesting, instead of having the same session week after week.

I practiced Boabom for three years before moving to Somerville. As much as I love it, the trek to Brookline is too long to keep up regularly. I would still be there if I lived closer, though.

If you’re looking for a good workout, for something that’s different, I’d give Boabom a try!” Alex
